A Romantic Shenandoah National Park Engagement Session

There’s always a little bit of anticipation leading up to a mountain session—especially when the forecast calls for rain all day. For R + T’s engagement session, we almost decided to postpone, but I’m so glad we didn’t. By the time we met at an overlook in Shenandoah National Park, the skies had cleared, the sun was shining, and the Blue Ridge Mountains gave us the most beautiful backdrop.

R + T drove all the way from Richmond to make this session happen, and it was such a joy to spend the evening with them. R brought two outfits—a lovely dressy look and a more casual style—which gave us a wonderful variety of photos. We spent just over an hour together capturing everything from sweeping mountain views to the sweet, candid moments between them. Afterward, they headed off for a dinner date (Taco Bell was their hope), making the whole evening an experience to remember.

One of my favorite parts about engagement sessions is not only photographing the love story unfolding in front of me but also getting to know my couples better. R + T are such kind people, and I can already tell their wedding in Staunton in May 2026 will be something special. To top it all off, they received their sneak peeks within 24 hours—a little tradition I love so couples can relive their session right away.

Shenandoah National Park is truly one of my favorite places for engagement photos. Between the dreamy light, mountain views, and peaceful setting, it’s the perfect spot for couples who want portraits that feel timeless, natural, and a little adventurous.
